WHAT IS MY SKIN TYPE?

Following is an outline of the basic skin types This can help you to determine what your skin type is and what would be your best skin care regimen to follow to ensure your skin’s health and slow down the ageing process. Your skin type can change over time and can also vary slightly due to weather changes. Please note that these are just guidelines and if you are unsure after reading below please see a dermatologist. NORMAL SKIN TYPE Normal skin has good circulation. Normal skin will not be too oily or too dry. With normal skin it will be soft with a smooth, even skin tone. You will find little to no imperfections, no severe sensitivity, the pores on the skin will be barely visible and you will usually have a radiant complexion. COMBINATION SKIN TYPE Your skin can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others, such as what is classified as the T-zone (nose, forehead and chin). Many people have this type of skin. It may need slightly different care in different areas. With combination skin you may find that the pores on the skin look larger than normal because they are more open, prone to blackheads and the skin is shiny, specifically in the T-zone area. DRY SKIN Dry skin has a low level if sebum and does not maintain oil easily. With dry skin you will find that the pores on the skin are almost invisible, your completion may be dull and a bit rough. There may be red patches on your skin and your skin will be less elastic than most. Lines on the face will be more visible. With dry skin you will find that it can crack, peel or become itchy, irritated or inflamed. If its very dry it can become rough and scaly, especially on the back of your hands, arms and legs. Dry skin can be caused or made worse by some of the following: Your genes Aging or hormonal changes Weather like wind, sun or the cold UV from tanning beds Indoor heating Hot baths and showers that are long Ingredients in the soaps, cosmetics or cleansers that you use Medications OILY SKIN TYPE Oily skin will leave blots of facial oil on a tissue, particularly from the cheeks, nose and forehead. This skin type has overactive sebaceous (oil) glands, that are producing more oil than necessary. With oily skin you will find that you have enlarged pores. Your skin can will be dull or shiny and it may give the look of a thick complexion. Your skin will be prone to blackheads, pimples and blemishes. Oily skin can be caused by hereditary factors, diet, hormone levels, pregnancy, unsuitable cosmetics and stress. SENSITIVE SKIN TYPE Sensitive skin can mean different things to different people. It can be caused by skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema or allergies. Someone with sensitive skin will show up with redness, itching, burning and dryness. If your skin is sensitive, try to find out what your triggers are so you can avoid them. It can be many but often it is in response to a particular skin care product and the ingredients used.
