HAIR OILING ROUTINE

HAIR OILING ROUTINE

WHAT IS HAIR OILING AND WHAT CAN IT DO FOR YOU

Hair oiling is the practice of pouring oil onto the hair and massaging it into the scalp to increase moisture, lustre and shine.  It helps soften the hair, providing essential vitamins and minerals, while creating a healthy environment, increasing growth, strength and elasticity.

This is not a new technique and has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine.

If you want to maintain the health and vibrancy of your hair, reduce hair loss, stimulate growth and improve the overall condition of your hair then this is something you need to add to your self care routine.

With an array of hair oils out there and a multitude of oils to choose from we have researched and consolidated the best oils and worked out the best combination for EVERY hair type as well as the best technique to use giving you the best outcome.

There is not just one oil that will do it all.

HOW TO OIL YOUR HAIR:

I recommend doing this once a week or once every two weeks.  It’s important to follow these steps exactly for the best outcome.

Apply Massaging the oil into your scalp has the purpose of increasing blood circulation.  This can help improve hair growth and prevent dandruff or address an irritated scalp.

  1. Apply oil directly onto your scalp.  Lift the hair as necessary to get to various areas of the scalp.  Using your fingertips massage it into you hair in circular motions. I recommend doing this for about 5 minutes.  Massaging your hair increases blood circulation to help improve growth, prevent dandruff and soothe an irritated scalp.

2.  After you have worked the oil into the roots, apply the oil to rest of the hair all the way out to the ends.  Use what was left on your palms after massaging it into your scalp to start off with and add more as needed.

3.   Comb through the hair to help evenly distribute the oil.  It is best to use a comb that is wooden as this will help distribute the oil.

4.  Tie up your hair or cover it with a cap and leave it in overnight.

5.  The next morning, shampoo out and rinse throughly.  If your hair is generally very dry condition as normal.   For oily hair I would leave out the conditioning step.  Test what works for you.  You can also add a little bit of the hair oil into your hair while it is wet and before it dries.

EXTRA TOUCH:  Add a little more to your hair oiling treatment, gently warm the oil over water before applying.  Don’t overheat and test how hot it is before applying to the hair.  Warm oil penetrates the hair more easily.  DO NOT microwave the oil.  This will damage the properties of the oil and make it less effective.

TOP BENEFITS OF HAIR OILING:

  1.  It helps scalp health.  A healthy scalp can help reduce hair fall.   Oils contain fatty acids that help replace lost lipids in the hair that are a result of chemical treatments, over washing, styling and even just the pollution in the environment that we live in.

2.   Lipids (fatty acids) from oils also play a big part in making your hair look and feel healthy.  It is what gives the hair shine and gloss.

3.   Oils strengthen the hair shaft resulting in less breakage.

4.  Certain oils contain certain nutrients and minerals that have been known to assist in stimulating hair growth.

OILS WE USE AND WHY:

Each of these oils have been chosen due to their specific fatty acid profiles, their abilities to nourish, protect and improve the overall health of the scalp and hair WITHOUT weighing it down and their abilities to stimulate hair growth, improve elasticity and rebalance.   These oils are also perfect for EVERY type of hair, curly, dry, normal, thin, thick, frizzy, etc.

Praxci Oil

This one you may not have heard of much.   It comes from the Pentaclethra Macroloba Tree, native to South American.  The oil is cold pressed from the seeds.  It contains one of the highest concentrations of Behenic Acid (a fatting acid responsible for hydrating and protecting the hair).  Although it is a moisturising oil, it is rapidly absorbed making it a very light, non-greasy oil for the hair, adding softness and shine.  Instead of sitting on the top of the scalp and hair, Pracxi oil has the ability to penetrate deep into the strands delivering nourishing nutrients.  It helps to increase the elasticity of the hair, resulting in less breakage and a healthier, soothed scalp.

Rosella Seed Oil

Also known as Hibiscus, a beautiful flowering herb.  It is super emollient and is known for its healing and regenerative benefits on the hair and scalp.  This oil penetrates both with ease, providing superior conditioning while strengthening damaged and dry hair.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Chosen specifically for its high content of natural zinc and magnesium.  Zinc helps to keep the scalp healthy and promote new hair growth while magnesium strengthens the hair shaft and prevents breakage.  It also contains a natural DHT (a type of hormone) blocker.  High levels of DHT can shrink your hair follicles and shorten the hair growth cycle, resulting in hair loss.

Evening Primrose Oil

This beauty contains arachidonic acid that promotes new hair growth and helps the existing hair shafts to grow longer.  It also helps to strengthen the hair strands and increases elasticity.

Argan Oil

Proven to be able to protect your hair from everyday damage. Its composition is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, proven to help make hair softer and more manageable.  With its high content of Vitamin E (crucial to healthy hair) it can naturally help increase hair elasticity and consistently restore shine to dull, lifeless hair.

Buriti Fruit Oil

This beautiful deep red oil comes from the fruit of the tree known by Brazilian natives as “The Tree of Life”.  It is given this name  because it contains the nutrients and support needed to sustain life.  This oil has been used for centuries by the natives to protect and treat dry hair.  Research has shown that when applied to hair, it naturally increases shine and reduces split ends, protects and treats scalp conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.  This oil is known as one of the richest natural sources of beta-carotene.  This is what givens the fruit its vibrant red colour.  This is converted to essential Vitamin A, which is needed for healthy cell membranes.

Peppermint Oil

The main constituent of peppermint is Menthol, which is a potent compound producing a sensation of coolness which the body counteracts by increasing blood flow to the area of application.   This increase in blood flow helps to stimulate and wake up the hair follicles essentially getting them back to work.

Here is our Goddess Hair Oil.
