SELF CARE AND SKINFOOD RECIPES

As we head into arguably the busiest time of year it is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner and another year is coming to a close.

This also tends to be the time when we frantically start working through our to do lists, trying to complete everything before the year ends.  At times like this it is especially important to be scheduling in regular me time, so that you can keep up with the fast pace without burning out.

One of my favourite things to do to unwind during stressful periods is to take a bath and read a book to relax my body and mind.  Magnesium and Epsom salt baths are particularly potent and can really deeply soothe and release tension.

Baths are also a good opportunity to nourish your face and hair with a Skinfood conditioner and mask while you soak.  It can take as little as 20 minutes to have this whole body pamper session but makes the world of difference to body and mind. Below are a couple of great DIY summer Skinfood recipes to try out.

BANANA & HONEY HAIR CONDITIONER During summer we spend a lot of time in the sun as well as swimming in the ocean and in pools, and the combination of sun, salt and chlorine can be very drying to our hair.  Bananna and honey are great for replenishing moisture in hair and smoothing the hair cuticle. 1 mashed banana 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix honey and banana together.

Wet hair and massage well into the scalp, making sure it is well distributed right through the ends.  Put on a shower cap and wrap hair in towel.  Leave in for 20 minutes then rinse and thoroughly wash hair. STRAWBERRY FACE MASK Strawberries are now in season here in Australia and in addition to being delicious they make a wonderful skin softening treatment.  Strawberries contain salicylic acid which helps clear pores and acts as an exfoliant in removing the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin allowing the skin to breathe and absorb moisture more efficiently.

The addition of honey will help draw impurities form the surface of the skin while locking in moisture.  During summer we tend to sweat a lot more meaning that keeping the skin clean is even more important. 2-3 strawberries mashed 1 teaspoon of honey Mix honey and strawberries together to form a paste.  Massage into skin, leave for 20 minutes and rinse off. Follow up with a nourishing organic face and body oil and you are good to take on the world again.
